Coyote Hunting at Alberta Hunting Adventures

Experience the thrill of the hunt with Kevin Wilson, a name synonymous with Alberta’s outdoors. When you hunt with us, you’re benefiting from over two decades of land management and predator control expertise. We understand the specific vocalizations and winter patterns of Alberta coyotes, offering you a front-row seat to the best fur-bearing action in the province.

Action-Packed
Our world-class coyote hunting has to be experienced to understand just how unique it is. We’ve had sets where a dozen coyotes converge across an open field at one time. And other’s where they just keep emerging from the edge of the trees every few minutes. During most sets though, it’s common to have one or two show up. Sometimes they’re sneaking in, and other times they’re racing in on a dead run. We have one guest in particular, who has been hunting with us for many years. He hunts coyotes all over North America, and he’s told us that Alberta is a predator hunter’s paradise … and we agree.
With high coyote densities, it is not uncommon for our hunters to see over 20 a day, and have anywhere from five to 15 come to the call throughout any given day. While there are never any guarantees, hunting high populations gives us the opportunity to present each of our hunters with world-class predator hunting opportunities.

Timing & Options
AHA offers 3-day full-service coyote hunt packages in central Alberta, with the option to add additional days at a pro-rated price. As far as timing your hunt goes, the first two weeks of December and the first 3 weeks during the coyote breeding season in February, generally book up fast – so it’s first come first serve.

Coyote Hunting by Calling & Decoying
Using a range of e-calls, mouth calls, and decoys, we talk the language. From prey-in-distress to howls, we’ve learned to coax them in – either for an ‘easy meal’ or to defend territory. We have access to loads of different private properties holding an abundance of coyotes. You simply have to experience it first hand to believe it!
A typical day begins well before daylight with a hearty breakfast, then a drive to our hunting grounds. Depending on snow conditions, we can often get as many as eight or more calling sessions in each day.

Coyote hunting in Alberta is often called the “Formula 1” of predator hunting – fast-paced and technical. At Alberta Hunting Adventures (AHA), Kevin and Heather Wilson leverage over 40 years of predator management, to put you in the middle of some of the highest coyote densities in North America. Here is the FAQ for your 2026 winter predator quest.

Our standard coyote package is a 3-day full-service hunt. Because of the high volume of "sets" we can do in a day, three days typically provides a decent opportunity to harvest a significant number of coyotes. Additional days can be added at a pro-rated cost.

Calling and Decoying is our primary hunt strategy. A typical day involves:

  • The Setup: We use a combination of electronic calls (e-calls), mouth calls, and motion decoys to "talk the language."
  • Volume: Depending on snow conditions and travel, we aim for 8 to 12 calling sets per day.
  • The Action: If you hunt coyotes enough, you know that sometimes the coyotes just don’t cooperate. Even still, at AHA, it is common to see 20+ coyotes in a day, with 5 to 15 coming to the call.

Alberta has no harvest limit on coyotes. This makes it a potentially high-volume shooting experience and it is much appreciated by local dairy and cattle ranchers.

Yes, although our coyote hunts take place mostly in non-wolf areas, our wolf hunting is only a couple hours away. Inquire for more information about our calling and/or baited wolf hunts.

Non-resident hunters (both Canadian and International) must be accompanied by a licensed guide. By booking with AHA, we handle the permitting requirements. No draw permits are required.

Yes. Just like our bear and deer hunts, you need a 10-digit Wildlife Identification Number (WIN) to purchase any hunting licenses. AHA will assist you in the registration process.

Fly into Edmonton International Airport (YEG). We provide transportation to and from the airport, unless otherwise arranged. If you prefer more flexibility, you can rent a vehicle and drive directly to our camp.

Winter in Alberta can be cold, but temperatures vary greatly from month to month.

  • Clothing: High-quality layering systems work best for our coyote (and wolf hunts). While we do a fair bit of walking in and out of properties, each calling set typically lasts from 15 minutes to 45 minutes.
  • Camouflage: Snow Camo (whites) is recommended. If you don't have a full snow suit, a thin white "cover-up" suit to wear over your greens/browns is essential for disappearing against the drifts.

The Ideal: A flat-shooting small caliber like a .22-250 or .223 and a fur-friendly cartridge are proven winners, but bigger calibers like .243 and .25-06 can work as well.

Note on Semi-Autos: Please remember that "tactical" style semi-automatics (like the AR-15 platform) are prohibited in Canada. Bolt-action or traditional-style semi-autos are the standard.

Our 3-day coyote packages ($2,900 USD) include:

  • Full guide service (Kevin or one of our other predator guides).
  • Lodging at our main lodge or local satellite accommodation.
  • All meals and field transportation (4x4 trucks or snowmobiles).
  • Field care (skinning/prepping) of your coyotes.

As of 2026, Alberta has eliminated the additional coyote/wolf permit, now allowing non-residents and non-resident aliens to hunt these two species under the authority of their Wildlife Certificate. In other words, there is no additional permit expense.

AHA Expert Tip: Coyotes have incredible eyesight and an even better nose. Always approach the “set” with the wind in your face, and once the call starts, stay still. A coyote will spot a finger twitch from 400 yards away against the white snow.
