Black Bear Hunting in Alberta CanadaTwo Bear Limit
Black bear hunting is a definite bucket list hunt, black bears are the ideal spot-and-stalk species for rifle, muzzleloader, archery and crossbow hunters. World-renowned for our high black bear population, while most are indeed black in color, our hunters are often presented with an opportunity to take a variety of color-phases. Pelage ranges from cinnamon to chocolate, and even blonde. Our six-day, full-service guided black bear hunting takes place in several north-central Alberta Wildlife Management Units (WMUs). While baited hunts can be enjoyable, at Alberta Hunting Adventures, we specialize in high-success spot-and-stalk hunting.

Wilderness Camp or Hotel
The wilderness wall-tent camp experience – complete with power, wilderness showers, and heat is most common. Although, if preferred – hotel accommodations are an option. Our black bear hunt is a high-success leisurely wilderness experience, with the opportunity to take two bears. While black bears can be hunted all day, they tend to be most active during the first and last hours of daylight. That said, we have taken bears mid-day as well.

Black Bear Hunting Strategy
A typical spot-and-stalk hunt involves covering ground – traveling logging and oil & gas roads and trails by truck or UTV/ATV – and glassing clear cuts and oil field lease sites, to locate bears. When we find the right one, a stalk is planned, and the guide and hunter move in for the shot. Most often finding black bears on food sources, we are usually able to sneak in close for a better look and for a shot opportunity. Average archery shots are between 20 and 40 yards. For our gun hunters, average shots are usually under 100 yards. In the right situation, we may use a predator-call to bring the bear running in. If you’ve never tried this before, it’s a rush you’ll never forget! This hunt takes place in May and early June as bears revisit lush clover and dandelion food sources. In September, our focus is more on hunting northern fringe farmland, where black bears routinely visit standing oat fields.
